WALKABILITY AUDIT

In November our Travel Officer Caroline visited our school to carry out a walkability audit with the Green School Committee, Josephine and Malwina (Parent). We left the school and walked towards the junction of Commons Road and Dan Shaw Road. The children were given jobs to do – measuring width of footpaths, looking for hazards on the footpaths for pedestrians and keeping a record of main type of traffic which passed us on our audit. The main concerns raised from the walkability audit were the lack of barriers as you leave our school through the pedestrian gate, speed limit on the road outside our school, inadequate pedestrian crossing lights at the junction of Dan Shaw Road and Commons Road and the absence of a footpath on one side of the road as you approach our school. Caroline then compiled a report of our findings and concerns, and this was given to Meath County Council. We are hopeful some of our priority concerns will be dealt with by the council.
