In the first part of the project a group of twelve 5th and 6th class students were chosen to participate in a series of CLIL lessons. Teachers taught them about their local area incorporating elements of the geography, history and art curriculum, all through the medium of Irish. The children took part in lessons, went on field trips around Navan town, to the Hill of Tara and to Trim Castle, and made artwork based on the history of the area. The children then created a PowerPoint project to present to the school. This PowerPoint was then to be presented to their European counterparts on the trip to Italy. The children really enjoyed learning about their local area using CLIL methods and the teachers really saw the benefits for the children and their use of the Irish Language.
